Information about the radio
SWR2 is aimed at people who are particularly interested in cultural and knowledge topics, as well as fans of classical music. Apart from individual magazine programs, longer spoken-word and music programs usually alternate throughout the day. Various broadcast formats are used, including magazine, feature, essay, radio play, reading, lecture, and discussion round. Several times a year (regularly between Christmas and New Year, as well as in spring – then under the name and concept of the SWR2 Radio Akademie), the program focuses on a specific theme. Since 2007, the educational program has been supplemented by the web channel SWR2 Archivradio.
The music program is dominated by so-called serious music. In addition, sophisticated pieces from the fields of pop, chanson, jazz, world, and experimental music can also be heard. SWR2 also broadcasts all concerts of the Donaueschinger Musiktage, Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele, and RheinVokal live or as recordings.
