When exactly the Emo genre emerged is hard to say today, as the description focuses more on the emotionally charged lyrics than the musical orientation. This is, of course, reflected in the name: Emo is not a designation for any musical techniques but simply an abbreviation for "emotional." What we understand by the term today, however, has its roots in the hardcore and punk scene of the 1980s - hard music meets hard emotions. Fear of failure, sadness, despair, and other very personal feelings find their way into the lyrics of the Emo genre, creating a unique music style and a deep connection between bands and their fans.
