The thematic focus of Deutschlandfunk today is on the one hand information and in-depth reports, and on the other hand culture-oriented programs. During the day, the program mainly focuses on current events in politics, economics, and science, while later culture (music, radio plays, readings, reports on cultural topics) determines the schedule. Accordingly, the proportion of music during the day is relatively low, while in the evening, at night, and on weekends, it accounts for about half of the broadcast time.
In the Cologne broadcasting house, parts of programs for Deutschlandradio Kultur are also produced. The entire DLF program is free of advertising. The station is one of the few remaining German radio stations that broadcasts the national anthem daily (in a string orchestra arrangement based on Haydn's string quartet version, just before the date changes around midnight). Since early 2007, the national anthem has been followed by the European anthem.
