Depeche Mode initially benefited from the rise of the New Romantic wave in the early 1980s in the UK and the accompanying synthesizer boom. Thus, they were particularly popular in England in the early 80s. This phase begins with the first album "Speak & Spell" and continues up to "Construction Time Again." In the early years, Vince Clarke was the creative center of the band. Later, this role was taken over by Martin Gore, who undoubtedly wrote the more timeless hits and was less tied to the zeitgeist than Vince Clarke. Vince Clarke would go on to achieve great success with the bands Yazoo and Erasure. At the same time, Depeche Mode was already moving towards superband status, especially after 1984, when things progressed very quickly. The album "Some Great Reward," recorded in Berlin, represents the band's typical success sound of the 80s.
