Since May 1996, more than 30 broadcast series have been aired irregularly in the city of Pulheim as event radio. Jan Lüghausen, long-time program director of Radio Central and Central FM, applied in January 2007 to the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM) for a permanent FM frequency in downtown Pulheim. It took two years to plan and coordinate the FM frequency 92.0 MHz with 50 watts of omnidirectional broadcasting. On December 3, 2008, the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM) advertised this capacity for private radio in Pulheim. The popularity of the Central FM brand and the successfully tested program and music format from November 25 to December 1, 2008, in the planned broadcast area during the Pulheim Barbaramarkt supported the application of the Pulheim radio creators. The Central FM Media GmbH, founded in April 2009, was well advised in advance by the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM) and incorporated the multitude of program-related requirements into the nationwide licensing. By decision of May 25, 2009, Central FM received the license as a nationwide full radio program.
