Since 1993, the Journalism Academy has been operating at the Old Town Youth Culture Center in Krakow, bringing together high school students and university students. During the classes at the Journalism Academy, young people learn the theory of journalism, the craft of a journalist, and also gain skills in radio and television editing. The greatest advantage of the Academy is that it allows students to put their acquired knowledge into practice through collaboration with local media. For their radio programs, radio reports, television reports, and the magazine “Nietakt,” the youth from the Journalism Academy at SCKM have received numerous awards.
Thanks to the agreement between SCKM and EKSIT, as well as funding from District Council I in Krakow and the Pedagogical University, the online Radio Pryzmat was created. It is a place designed for young people who want to improve their journalistic skills through practical activities. The main goal of our activity is to promote and create local initiatives, primarily artistic, cultural, and also municipal. Working at the radio station gives young people the opportunity to develop their interests, and their reporting contacts with people from the fields of culture, art, and local governance contribute to their intellectual and artistic growth. Our programs are aimed at people of all ages, so the program blocks are well-suited to the expectations of listeners – there is time for broadly understood culture, local governance, education, and even a block entirely prepared for children – by children. Radio Pryzmat stands out among other stations with its focus on the “spoken word” and substantive discussions, to which we invite our listeners. They can interactively participate in the radio program and openly express their opinions.
