En Juin 1988, Wit FM a été créée à Bordeaux, par Jean-Louis Marin, ancien journaliste de RMC et un membre de l'équipe de Sud Radio. Wit FM a repris les fréquences défunts de la station de radio parisienne Hit FM, ils ont choisi un nom similaire à celle de la station FM de réussite afin de garder ses prédécesseurs auditeurs. Quelque temps plus tard, la station a été acquis par Claude Bez, président du club de sport Girondins de Bordeaux.
