Death Metal zählt zu den extremsten Arten des Metal und ist Mitte der 1980er Jahre in den USA entstanden. Vorreiter wie Deathoder Morbid Angel haben das Genre damals etabliert und schon schnell an Einfluss gewonnen. Es kamen in der Folge immer mehr Bands dazu, von denen viele immer technisch versierter wurden – genannt Technical Death Metal.
