This American Life was created in 1995 by Ira Glass (an American journalist and producer) and Torey Malatia (journalist, radio producer and public media manager). The original title of this show was Your Radio Playhouse. Currently it is hosted by Ira Glass only. The show has a talk format and features short stories, essays, monologues, interviews etc. It became quite popular in the United States and some of the episodes became the basis for movie scripts.
