Western Cape, September 5 -- New legislation currently being drafted aims to limit the use of the government's VIP protection unit, commonly known as the "blue-light brigade." The Western Cape government says the use of blue lights is open to abuse and wants to limit it solely to life-threatening circumstances. The province's MEC, Robin Carlisle, says only the country's president and deputy president will be exempt from the law. The drafting of the Western Cape Provincial Road Traffic bill is open to the public for comments until September 20.
