WBRZ launched in 1955 as a primary NBC affiliate and was part of the Manship Family's broadcasting world, which included Baton Rouge's first radio station, WJBO-AM, and the city's two major newspapers "The Morning Advocate" and "The State-Times." Although the Manships have sold the radio station and newspapers, they continue to own the TV station along with part-time This TV affiliate WBTR/KBTR-CD and ABC affiliate KRGV in Weslaco, TX.
Branding for the newscast have included Nightdesk, Eyewitness News (both until the mid 1990s), ABC Channel 2 News (1996-1997), WBRZ Channel 2 News (1997-2001), News 2 (2001-present), "Balanced, Fair Accurate" (2004-2006), " slogans have included "People You Can Count on" (1982-1984), "The One to Watch" (1984-1986), using Ernest P. Unlike many TV stations, WBRZ does not have any subchannels that broadcast different network programming. For many years, its second subchannel rebroadcast its newscasts while the third rebroadcast the weather. Today, it just has the second subchannel known as WBRZ Plus.
