Boulou Ferret relates a story told to him by his father Matelo, who often accompanied Django. Apparently, Django was a big fan of American movies and film music was a big influence on him. After watching “King Kong”, Django walked out of the theater and composed “Rhythm Futur”, a wild, dissonant, modernist piece. Here Olli Soikkeli and Jason Anick of the “Rhythm Future Quartet” play an abbreviated version of the tune on Selmer #698, reputedly once owned by Matelo.
