A blue-green algae bloom brought about by high temperatures has covered Chaohu Lake in China’s eastern Anhui Province. One-sixth of the lake's surface area of 760 square kilometers has been affected by the algae outbreak, which may cause the water quality to deteriorate and even deplete oxygen and kill fish. Authorities have dispatched boats to extract algae and turn them into fertilizer.
